Putting things into perspective with Vlad Calus, Co-Founder of Planable

When you’re running a business, it’s easy to get  so absorbed by work that we forget about everything else. Vlad Calus, Co-Founder of Planable, has found the sweet spot between work and play.

Vlad understands that while his job’s important, it shouldn’t come at the expense of his physical and mental wellbeing. He makes it a point to eat healthily, spend time with the people he cares about, and to look up from his devices every once in a while.

There’s no doubt that running a SaaS company is nerve-wracking, especially since Vlad dropped out of college to pursue his passion in social media by starting his very own company. Here’s what he had to say about how he keeps his days in balance.

Planning ahead

I usually wake up by 7.30am and check my email to see if there’s anything burning that I need to go to straight away. I then write down my weekly and daily goals, so I know exactly what I want to achieve by the end of the week, and what I need to do to get there. It keeps me more focused and productive each day.

Taking care of yourself

Next, I have my breakfast, which is always full of protein with yogurt, cereals, fruits, eggs, peanut butter and nuts. A healthy breakfast helps me stay energised throughout the day.

Recently, I’ve started to meditate and work out every morning, even if it’s for ten minutes. I want to have a clear mind before arriving at the office because this allows me to give my full attention to work. In the past, I commuted to work wearing headphones and listening to a podcast on digital marketing, growth, business, and lifestyle. But now I’ve taken a break from that.

Being passionate about what you do

I love what I do and my work never seems like a chore to me. This makes the challenges I face less daunting, and seem more like rewarding tasks to complete, rather than problems to solve.

I do a lot of writing, because my job requires reaching out to people and creating new content for Planable. This is amazing because I get the opportunity to connect with marketers, founders, investors and social media managers to build a community of passionate people around me.

At Planable, we’re extremely motivated by our customers and the daily positive feedback they give about our product. It warms my heart to know that we’re building something meaningful for them, that helps save time and money. As one of the founders, I’m always excited to jump on a call with one of our customers to get their feedback and ideas about what we can improve and build on.

We’re a passionate team at Planable. Sometimes, there may be moments when we feel stressed – that’s why we encourage team members to take short breaks to recharge. As for myself, I usually eat a light snack like an apple or banana, go for short walk, or even watch a short Youtube video to relax and get my focus back.

Looking up from your phone

I try to disconnect after arriving home from work (although my girlfriend would probably say I don’t always manage to).  Keeping a balance between work and personal life is really important to me. This also helps me clear my mind so that I can concentrate on the things I need to do tomorrow. When I spend  time away from the screen I feel more productive, inspired and creative, which of course helps me think of new ideas.

It’s not easy being a SaaS founder but there are some things we can do to ease the stress of it all. I believe that everyone needs to do at least a couple of hours of exercise every week. Keeping fit can have incredible benefits for you and for your company; we just have to put our mind to it.

Founded in 2014, Planable is the command center of social media campaigns trusted by agencies, freelancers, and marketing teams to create, collaborate, approve, and schedule.
